SCHOOL COUNSELLING SERVICE
The school counselling service provides emotional and therapeutic services for all pupils in St Joseph’s, the objective is to support the children’s emotional well-being and build their resilience through talking, creative work and play.
Counselling gives a child the opportunity to explore how they feel without the fear of judgement. Speaking to a counsellor away from their home or school life can take away some of the pressure. Counselling offers a safe environment for them to express their feelings and understand what may have caused them to feel this way.
School Counselling at St Joseph’s
The School Counsellor, Geri is based in school each Tuesday and Wednesday.
When can counselling help?
Sometimes children can feel particularly anxious, sad, confused, fearful or angry, due to, for example: family challenges such as separation, illness or bereavement, friendship issues/bullying or any number of other concerns.
What support does the counselling service offer?
1:1 Support - Geri offers 1:1 therapeutic support to children in the school, parents and carers will have the opportunity to speak with Geri before, during and after counselling.
Lunchtime drop-ins - Geri runs sessions each lunch time where children can make an appointment for some support with friendship issues or to chat about things that are worrying them. We have a post box in school where the children can post their forms to make an appointment.

Geri is also available for parents/carers, to offer support if needed. If you would like to meet with Geri, please contact school on 0161 432 5689
